CO2 Laser Ablation

As we age the effects of time, the sun, hormones, stress and life’s vices can take a toll on our skin and make us look older than we feel. Here at CO2 Med Spa, a division of Laser Aesthetics of Colorado, our Carbon Dioxide (CO2) ablative laser addresses deep lines, acne scarring, severe pigmentation and sagging skin. The CO2 laser has the longest wavelength of all the lasers on the market (10600 nm). It emits short bursts of high-intensity light to selectively targeted areas of the skin. The light emissions precisely remove damaged skin to reveal the underlying skin which is softer, smoother, and younger looking while boosting collagen growth and tightening the treated skin.

Candidates for Ablative CO2 Treatments

  • Patients that are seeking a dramatic improvement with just a single treatment
  • Patients that have developed significant facial lines and wrinkling
  • Patients with uneven skin surfaces resulting from scars

About Ablative CO2 Treatment

Fractional Skin Resurfacing
CO2 laser treatment can be divided into two different techniques; the traditional fully ablative procedure or a newer, more widely used procedure known as Fractional Skin Resurfacing. With Fractional Resurfacing, the laser is delivered to only portions of the treated area. The benefits of fractional CO2 laser resurfacing include faster recovery with excellent results.

Downtime for the patient will vary depending upon a number of factors including the level of treatment. The recommended treatment suggested will vary from patient to patient and will be discussed with you by our experienced licensed Laser Specialist during your free no obligation consultation. Immediately after the CO2 Laser Treatment your skin will feel sunburned and you should expect that the treated area will initially look worse before it looks better.

How the Ablative CO2 Laser Procedure is Performed

The day of the laser procedure, a topical anesthetic will be applied to reduce discomfort. The patient will be offered a prescription to reduce swelling. Each treatment area takes approximately 30 minutes. Recovery time for treatment is typically eight days. This recovery time varies depending on overall patient health, skin type, and desired results. Most people drive to and from their own appointment.

Included in each Ablation treatment are pre and post-treatment care products. Patients will begin the pre-treatment skin care system one week prior to treatment. This system gently prepares the skin by sloughing old, damaged cells and strengthening the skin prior to treatment.
